To begin this colorful page, I sprayed Ranger Distress Qxide over an Art Screen Stencil and let the design dry. I followed that with Jane Davenport watercolors and let that dry. I added marks using a Faber-Castell Pitt Pen and a Posca Pen.

#2 Fairy on Toned Paper

 This is this is my second of 50 Fab Fun Fairies that was a challenge in the Awesome Art School online classes. I had a great time working in my new Strathmore Toned Tan paper sketchbook.

Following this tutorial by Karen Campbell, the owner of Awesome Art School, I used my Pentel Mechanical pencil to draw the fairy. I went over my pencil lines with a Prismacolor Premier colored pencil. I used the same pencil for shading and followed that with a Sharpie Fine Point marker. A Posca Pen was used to apply the highlights.

Paper Doll Mini Page

 

I was looking at Karen Campbell's tutorials on Utube and noticed two projects using a paper doll. I have several Julie Nutting Prima Doll Stamps and used to create some pretty cool canvas pictures with scrapbook paper. So I went to find my stamps and the paper and found Riley.

I printed Riley on X-press It Blending Card and colored her with Copic Markers. I dressed Riley in scrapbook paper, cut her out and outlined her using black Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pen.  For details I used a Micron Pen.

I adhered Riley to a page in my mini art journal and drew a dog with the Micron Pen, to keep her company. 

I used the Micron Pen to write Karen's quote and set it in a cut out n the page, which I outline with the same Micron pen.

Veronica Lake

 

I was enjoying drawing with my Elegant Writer pen, when I noticed one eye of my face drawing wasn't right. Not wanting to throw my drawing in the trash, I covered that eye with more hair AKA actress Veronica Lake (hubby's idea). Actress from the 40s, during filming, Lake's long blonde hair accidentally fell over her right eye during a take and created a "peek-a-boo" effect.

I was following a tutorial by Karen Campbell on YouTube. The Elegant Writer is a calligraphy pen. When you go over the lines that are in black with a wet paint brush, they turn green or blue. When you wipe it the lines turn pink!

Audrey Hepburn Illustration Part 2

 

 

This is the second tutorial which adds the background to the lovely drawing of Audrey Hepburn. These tutorials are by Karen Campbell for Awesome Art School.

Using my Pental Mechanical pencil, I followed Karen's video drawing the cafe and pastry shop background on Canson 140 lb. watercolor paper. I used Faber-Castell Albrecht Durer watercolor pencils to color the background and Micron and Faber-Castell Pens for details and outlines.

I enjoyed working on this project and look forward to more amazing projects with Karen Campbell at the Awesome Art School.

Audrey Hepburn Illustration Part 1

 

This drawing of Audrey Hepburn is Part 1 of a two part tutorial by Karen Campbell for Awesome Art School. I watched Karen draw Audrey Hepburn in a video and then drew the image on my own referring to the reference photo provided.

 I colored this wonderful actress using Faber-Castell Albrecht Durer watercolor pencils, on Canson 140 lb. watercolor paper. Then added highlights which were done with a Gelly Roll Pen.

I love how my drawing of Audrey Hepburn came out and look forward to working on the background.

#1 Fairy on Toned Paper

Dapper Deco Style

 

Here's my second drawing from "Learn to Draw Art Deco Style, Vol 2" by Karen Campbell. Not only did I have the detailed instructions on how to use the Quadrant Method of drawing this character in the book, but also a detailed explanation to help me color him in using Copice Markers! To get the tweed fabric look, I started first with vertical and then horizontal strokes!

 

I used Karen's Quadrant Method to first draw on tracing paper guide lines and then drew detailed on scrap paper. I used my light pad to transfer all the detail onto my X-Press It Blending Card.

 

I drew over my pencil lines with a Micron Pen. I used Copic Markers for his suit, hat shoes and skin. I used a Gelly Roll Pen for highlights.

I love how this dapper fellow came out and look forward to more work in these books.

Day Dress Deco Style

 

I finally got around to my first drawing in "Learn to Draw Art Deco Style, Vol. 1" by Karen Campbell. Not only did I have the detailed instructions in the book, but there was an added video to help me color her in using Copice Markers!

1929 Bugatti Sketch

 

 I recently got the second volume of Karen Campbell's book "Learn to Draw Art Deco Style." I enjoyed the first volume, but haven't gotten around to work with it yet. The second volume just blew me away. I had to try my hand at drawing at least one of those sleek cars!

My husband Sandy wants to trade my car in and get one of those electric cars. Well, unless the 1929 Bugatti comes with a battery, this sketch is what he will get for Father's Day!

 

After following all the direction to draw this car, I used a Micron (01) Pen for the the pencil lines and colored the car with Copic Markers. The grey detail is actually done with a white Prismacolor Pencil.

I'm really happy with my finished piece and look forward to work on more in both the first and second volumes in these great books.
