Pink Kitty

This lovely kitty is from a tutorial by Tamara Laporte, during a Kaleidoscope 2022, Taster Week.

I couldn't wait to begin this tutorial, my granddaughter, who will be 5 in September adores cats. She has a lot of them and each has a name! She has a favorite pink one that she carries around with her!

I enjoyed painting this perfect kitty using my Jane Davenport watercolors and Posca Pens on Canson 140 lb. cold press watercolor paper.

Art with Grandma pages!

My husband and I spent several days at a beach house with our family. We had a wonderful time.

I brought books and art supplies to play with the kids. Our 4 year old granddaughter enjoyed them and really go into painting the resist watercolor pages. It pleased me the most, when she started to paint at the table on her own. I had left everything in place and there she was painting!

Here are the steps to doing the background arty pages:

1. Scribble 3 colors of Caran D' ache crayons on the double spread pages.

2. Paint over the scribbles with a bit of water and gesso. Let dry.

3. Spray Dylusions Ink Spray thru several Faber-Castell Mixed Media Stencils. Let dry.

4. Using gesso and a tool rub the white into a stencil design on the pages. Let dry.

5. Cut around photos and print saying. Mat child's painting photo.

6. Adhere everything along with stickers to the pages.

I love how it all came together!

A Grounding Moment/Mixed Media Painting

Today I worked on this elephant painting from a tutorial by Tamara Laporte, in the Woman Unleashed online retreat.

I used Jane Davenport watercolors on Canson 140 lb. cold press watercolor paper. I enhanced the piece using Posca and Micron pens.

I'm so happy with the finished mixed media painting!

Florida Duck

Introducing Duck #2 a Florida Duck! My husband Sandy loved the duck I painted last month, so I found another duck to paint for Father's Day. This duck is from a tutorial by Paul Clark. It was a Duck on Ice, but that winter scene just did not work for a person living in the great state of Florida. So, I painted the duck according to the tutorial and the back is painted from my imagination!

I used Winsor Newton Cotman watercolor tubes and the work is painted on Canson 140 lb. cold press watercolor paper.

I'm very proud of how this fellow came out and I'm sure Sandy will love it too!

Not a Mess Art Journal Page

I recently saw a cool page on Facebook by Theresa Hall aka To Far Away Places. It spoke to me and I just had to make it my own.

My Process:

1. Used Liquitex Matte Medium for adhesive, layered bits of card stock and papers down the two long sides of my page.

2. Collaged a strip of graph paper down the middle where the quote was to go.

3. Adhered some stenciled feather cut outs in various places.

4. Painted white gesso in a variety of areas and rubbed it off to show what's underneath.

5. Used daubers with three colors of acrylics to blend in the color on the textured surface of the page.    >>Let dry.

6. Copy quote down the middle of the page using Micron 01 pen.

I enjoyed the challenge of this piece in my Art Journal. It's quote is perfect for most artist and crafters!

Follow Your Dream

I had some fun with Dylusions Ink Spray, butterfly stencils, a word stencil and a gold Posca Pen, around the lettering. I used the acrylic paint for stencils and around the edge of the pages where the ink had missed. This Art Journal continues to be pages and pages of fun!

I love the look of the butterflies in the sky!

Deer in Watercolor

It's fun painting animals following a tutorial by Sarah Cray for Let's Make Art.

I used Winsor Newton Cotman tube colors on Canson 140 lb. cold press paper. I transferred the available outline to watercolor paper using a light pad.

Looking for Sunshine

This art journal spread was inspired by Mixed Media Artist Jesse Royston Petersen, with my own spin.

Here are my steps:

1) Cut out some buildings from some old gelli prints.

2) Detail the builds with Posca Pen.

3) Cut "Old Jalopy" from a Sizzix die using Cuttlebug Machine from colored card stock.

4) Distress car with black crayon.

5) Use Gelli Plate with 2 sheets of black paper, several acrylic paints and a brayer to design a shimmering night background. Let dry.

6) Adhere buildings and car to painted card stock and adhere to the 2 page spread.

7) Print saying on yellow card stock and adhere it to black card stock...glue to page.

I like how the scene, looks like the moon is shining in the night sky.

Unicorn Skirt

I can not tell a lie, I love my 4 year old granddaughter to the moon and back! To be making things for her that she really loves and wears is my greatest pleasure! Here she is in her unicorn skirt made with two different fabrics. This is the third style of skirt made with New Look pattern #6258.

The tee shirt top was embroidered with my machine using a Stitchtopia design called "Spring Unicorn Embroidery Design." The tee shirt's a bit big, but I didn't have time to order online and besides it will fit for sometime to come!

Come back and check to see what I make next, our little fashionista decided on the design!

Frida Kahlo Inspiration

I am inspired by Frida Kahlo, who was a Mexican painter known for her portraits and work inspired by the nature and artifacts of Mexico. She had a difficult and painful life, yet continued to paint in a folk style using vibrant colors. Here she is in my Art Journal tribute, inspired by Jesse Peterson of Let's Make Art.

I printed an outline offered at Let's Make Art and transferred it to a page in my Art Journal, using graphite paper. The paper moved and I needed a way to substitute the face. I traced just the face on watercolor paper and adhered it over the first one. I painted the figure and background with Jane Davenport watercolors.

Steps:

1) Using scrapbook paper I traced and cut out the jacket and adhered it to the figure.

2) Using a black Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pen added detail lines.

3) Printed a chosen quote and glued it to black card stock, adhered both to the second page of the   spread.

4) Decorated the second page further, with doilies and flowers.

I'm really happy the lovely 2 page spread and look forward to more.
