Angels are Always With You: Mixed Media

Here's another piece from a tutorial by my favorite mixed media artist Tamara Laporte.

I used numerous supplies to paint this piece, but skipped several, which I didn't have. It was still fun to transfer the design onto my watercolor paper and make it work with what I have!

The supply list goes something like this:

Canson 140 lb cold press paper

Caran D'Ache watersoluble crayons

Jane Davenport watercolors

Dr. Ph. Martin's Bleed Proof White

Micron Pen

Posca Pens

Prismacolor Pencils

If you haven't tried Tamara Laporte's tutorials, give it a try!

Angel Mixed Media

I so loved this tutorial "Asking Your Angels," with Tamara Laporte. I enjoyed listening to her, as I tried to follow the tutorial. If I could ask this angel, I would ask that my family stay healthy and be able to spend our holidays together, as we have in the past.

This tutorial is part of Woman Unleashed an Online Retreat.

I used the outline provided to paint this lovely angel in Jane Davenport watercolors on Canson 140 lb. watercolor paper. The basic painting was enhanced with Posca pens, Micron pen and Primacolor Pencils.

Autumn River Watercolor

"Autumn River," is from a tutorial by Sarah Cray for Let's Make Art. I used the outline provided along with the tutorial. She was good to follow along with until I got lost finishing up the river. I went on my own at that point, it's just slightly different than the artist's version.

I painted this sweet landscape using Winsor Newton Cotman watercolor tubes on Canson 140 lb cold press watercolor paper.

Holiday Wreath

This holiday painting is from a tutorial by Sarah Cray for Let's Make Art. I painted this colorful wreath on an old piece of Arches watercolor paper with Jane Davenport watercolors. These were great to add several shades of green and the addition of a metallic color. I enjoyed adding holly leaves to the basic wreath, giving it a fuller look.

Vintage Santa Clause, Line and Wash

Here's my version of a "Vintage Santa Clause," from a tutorial by The Art Sherpa, Cinnamon Cooney.

I painted this delightful Santa using Jane Davenport watercolors. These bright colors gave me a different look to this vintage line and wash painting. The black outlines were done with a Micron (01) pen.

Part 2 Taster Sessions for Life Book 2022

For several weeks I've enjoyed participating in mixed media classes. These are given as tastes to participants, who might later on, in January order the complete Life Book 2022. The lessons are given via video and the book put together by Tamara Laporte. The tasters are included in the book. I'm very happy to have taken part in this event. I learned a great deal.

The Taster Sessions were reopened for a short time and I got to finish up two tutorials.

The first is "Whispers of the Wind, a tutorial by Ida Anderson Lang. I used a variety of supplies including watercolor paints and colored pencils.

My second project is a "Magical Woodland Elf," a tutorial by Andrea Gomoll. Rather than design the wand in this delightful tutorial, I worked on this as a watercolor elf painting.

I loved doing each of the tutorials offered and hope you look into the Life Book 2022.

Ms Clause Mixed Media

Last year I painted Santa from a tutorial by Sarah Cray for Let's Make Art. This year I wanted to give Santa his wife, and used an outline provided by Amanda Winzenreid Henry.

The painting started out to be painted with Holbein Artists gouache, as I did last year's Santa. But I got carried away with the details and used Posca Pen, Gelly Roll pen and a Micron pen to enhance my portrait of Ms Clause.

I hope you enjoy these lovely characters, I certainly did!

Classic Holiday Line and Wash

I'm really excited to show off my "Christmas Phone Booth," painting from a tutorial by Paul Clark. It took most of the day to paint, but it was so worth it! I used Winsor Newton Cotman watercolor tubes and a bit of Holbein Artists white gouache for the snow. It is painted on Canson 140 lb. cold press watercolor paper and the line was done with a Micron Pen (01).

Though the painting was very challenging, I took my time and I'm so proud of my finished work!

Fall Barn Watercolor

It's fall and soon it will be what some people call winter. Yup it does get somewhat colder in Florida, but I digress. I was talking about fall. Sometimes we get falling leaves in Florida and the "Fall Barn," a tutorial by The Art Sherpa, Cinnamon Cooney, has lovely golden leaves just before they fall to the ground.

I used my light pad to trace the outline provided on to Canson 140 lb. cold press watercolor paper. I used Winsor Newton Cotman watercolor tubes to paint this fall scene.

As of this writing, I have begun to see some leaves on the ground!

Art Fairy Mix Media

This "Art Fairy," is a free tutorial by Tamara Laport from her website Willowing.org.

Tamara walks you through each step of this piece and provides a traceable. Having a new printer, I had trouble getting to print the outline provided. I drew the fairy instead to the waist. I really enjoyed using my new Jane Daveport watercolor sets and my Posca pens. I used several other pens, paints and pencils too. I painted this Art Fairy Canson 140 lb. cold press watercolor paper.

Here's my version of an Art Fairy, she was a delight to work on!

Girl With Patterned Background

This face is from the Jane Davenport pad "I came, I saw, I contoured." I transferred the design onto watercolor paper using my light pad. I traced around the face onto scrap paper and used it to mask the line drawing. I did cropped the girl's picture as she has an elongated neck! I think she looks very attractive now though!

I sprayed Dylusions Ink Spray through a Faber-Castell mixed media stencil, around the face. I went over the pencil lines with a Micron pen and a Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pen (both waterproof).

I used Winsor Newton Cotman watercolor tubes to paint the face. The project was not easy to photograph to get the right colors and in person the face is not so blotchy. But I enjoyed combining techniques!

Girl With Hat/Girl with Braid

These are from a set of faces by Jane Davenport in a pad titled "I Came, I Saw, I Contoured". I added a  lovely purple hat to one and a braid to the other.

I used my light pad to transferred the faces to watercolor paper.

I made a background for the girl wearing the hat. I used a black Micron 01 pen to go over the pencil lines and painted the face using my new JI traced and cut out a mask to cover the face and sprayed 3 colors of Dylusions Ink Spray on the picture.

I'm enjoying my journey into mixed media!
