This Moonlit Dreamscape is from a tutorial by artist Melanie Bess for the Mastering the Mixed Media event.
Through this tutorial I learned some new techniques and information, such as the focal point of this piece, a stack of stones is called a cairn. Which is a mound of stones built as a memorial or landmark, typically on a hilltop or skyline.
The scene was drawn using a watercolor pencil which disappeared when I painted. Each stone was painted with a wet-on-wet technique. The scene was painted in my Canson Watercolor Book with Kuretake Gansai Tambi Watercolors. I scribbled a bit with watercolor pencils and neo-color crayons. I painted a piece of a section at a time allowing each to dry before beginning another.
I used colored pencils to decorate the stones and a Posca Pen to draw the stars. I added a bit of Gansai Tambi Opal Pink Color below the moon for some metallic shine.
This was a challenging piece to work on, but I'm so happy I did!
