Pheasant in Watercolor

This Pheasant watercolor is from a tutorial by Paul Clark.

I used my light pad to transfer the outline of the bird to my Canson 140 lb. cold press watercolor paper. I painted this bird using Winsor Newton Cotman watercolor tubes. I used salt in the wet paint to provide texture to the background. I used Grumbacher Miskit to mask the grass, while I painted shadows. The painting was enhanced with Dr. Ph. Martin's Bleed Proof white.

Chinese New Year 2023

Happy New Year, the Year of the Rabbit 2023.

This mixed media painting was so fun to work on. I love Diane Antone's tutorials.

I used my light pad to transfer the sketch to Canson 140 lb. cold press. I painted with Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolors. These are my new Japanese watercolors they are not as transparent, but nice and creamy. For transparency, I would use more water. I do like the rabbit even with the brush strokes, it kind of looks like a mahogany wood carved rabbit!

Tulip Field in Watercolor

This watercolor painting is of a Tulip Field from a tutorial by Sarah Cray for Let's Make Art.

I transferred the outline provided, on to my watercolor paper using my light pad. I painted with Jane Davenport watercolors on Canson 140 lb. watercolor paper.I enhanced the piece using a Carandache Crayon.

It was a fun painting to work on as well as a challenge. I love how it looks now that it's finished.

Friends Art Journal Page

I enjoy using journal pages by Vicky Papaioannou as my inspiration for my own art journal. I love her sentiments  and learn a lot from the techniques she uses. With her work to inspire me, I can go off and make the ideas my own.

For the background of the page, I sprayed two color of Distress Oxide. First I used Cracked Pistachio and used a baby wipe to move the color around. I followed that with Mermaid Lagoon, through a piece of a stencil design in 3 places.

I used my stash of letters for the sentiment and typed some lines on my computer, which I printed and cut sticking them all in place.

I printed 2 boys and 2 girls from the 4 Seasons CC Designs collection of stamps and colored them with Copic Markers. I cut them out and glued them in a crowd scene and added a couple of balloons.

The framed edge is painted with acrylic paint.

I really love how this page came together!

Rainbow Journal Pages

Here's a two page spread inspired by Vicky Rapaioannou.

To begin this spread, I sprayed Dylusions Periwinkle Blue on my pages and used a baby wipe to spread the ink. When the ink was dry, I mixed a bit of the ink with Ranger Texture Past. and spread the mixture thru an old stencil. I followed that by spraying Dylusions Shimmer Spray thru a hearts shape stencil.

I cut the letters of Rainbow" in multi colors using my Cricut Machine. I distressed the letters with dark ink and added stitching lines and glued the letters in place.

I cut out an umbrella and figure from assorted papers and added red boots making them shine with Glossy Accents.

I finished the pages with assorted sticky letters and splashed some white ink for the rain!

Chickadee in Watercolor

This Chickadee painting was a great gift for my husband Sandy, who loves to photograph birds. It's from a tutorial by Sarah Cray for Let's Make Art.

I used my light pad to transfer the outline to my Canson 140 lb. cold press watercolor paper.

I followed Sarah Cray's wet into wet technique with my Winsor Newton Cotman watercolor tubes. Later, I made changes of my own to this lovely piece. I know my husband loves the painting, I gave it to him as an early gift!

Snowstorm in Watercolor

I was really happy to move to Florida and never have to shovel the snow again! I even tend to skip tutorials that include that cold white stuff. I relented when I got a look at Paul Clark's Snowstorm tutorial.

It was so fun playing with the Winsor Newton Cotman tube watercolors on Arches 140 lb. cold press watercolor paper. The colors blended on the wet into wet surface and then I added the salt to the mix. I spattered Speedball acrylic ink for the falling snow.

I'm so glad to have had the chance to paint this snowstorm!

Robins in the Snow

Here's another painting from a wonderful tutorial from Diane Antone. This has to be my favorite piece from all the tutorials that I have worked on from this artist's tutorials.

I especially went to Staples to by the special ruler that has various size holes. I used it as a stencil to create the bokeh effect background.

To paint this piece, I used a number of supplies:

Light Pad to transfer template to Canson 140 lb, cold press watercolor paper

Winsor Newton Cotman tube watercolors

Holbein Artists Gouache

Dr. Ph. Martin Bleed Proof White

Grumbacher Misket (masking fluid)

Micron 01 pen

I loved the challenge to paint this piece and hope you like it too.
