Although I haven't read "The Hobbit," I love how it has inspired Sarah Cray to teach this tutorial. It was fun to follow and great to expand on with my own ideas.
I used my light pad to transfer the outline to my Canson 140 lb. cold press watercolor paper. I painted this piece with Jane Davenport watercolors and added lines with a Micron 01 pen and a Uni-ball Signo pen.
This painting is 8x10", giving me lots of room to play around with the scene. And I did!
