Paul Clark's watercolor group on Facebook, had a three part lesson on watercolor painting mountains. The first was painting a mountain shape and dragging a credit card to form grooves and crevasses in the mountain.
The second painting was to cover different surfaces on the outline of the mountain drawing with masking fluid. Then paint details in the surrounding areas. After the paint dried I used a rubber cement pick up to remove the fluid. I enhanced the painting with a white pastel pencil.
The third lesson was to paint a mountain landscape and lake. Paul Clark used plastic wrap over the painted surface of the mountains and rocks to get interesting shapes. But, it didn't work for my painting and I ended up hand painting and blending the color as I went. The glistening water on the lake was by scratching the paper with a mat knife.
I'm really happy that I could save my painting by blending the watercolors on the mountains and rocks!
