Chapeaux Shop, Line and Wash Watercolor

Recently a watercolor group (Art by Paul Clark and Watercolour Challenges by Margot), which I belong to suggested "store fronts," for a challenge painting.

I combined a few ideas and came up with a vintage hat shop. My husband Sandy had a photo of an old style barbershop which was easily turned into a hat shop. I found some ideas on Pinterest for hats and store fronts. I love hats!

I used my light pad to transfer an outline I drew of the shop, onto my watercolor paper (Canson 140 lb cold press). I went over my pencil lines with a Micron 01 pen and painted the composition using Winsor Newton Cotman tube watercolors. I used some wonderful techniques for the buildings at the sides of the shop. These I learned from Artist Paul Clark.
