Cameron Mark Character Drawing

 I enjoy the characters that Cameron Mark displays on Pinterest and have tried to draw several of them and others taught by Karen Campbell for Awesome Art School.

This latest character was from a tutorial by Karen also for Awesome Art School. Cameron Mark had given her permission to use it.

I drew her using a Graphgear 1000 Pentel Pencil on Fabriano Hot Press watercolor paper. For shade and darkening lines, I used a Blackwing-Matte Pencil.

King Frog in Graphite

 This King Frog in Graphite is from a fun tutorial by Lucy Brydon for Awesome Art School. She lead the lesson step by step.

I drew this creature on Strathmore watercolor paper (140 lb.) and used a Graphgear 1000 Pentel Pencil and a Blackwing Pencil. I used a paper stump for shading and a kneaded eraser to rub in highlightes.

I think I was pretty successful. It was a fun drawing to work on.

Happy King and Queen in Marker

 

This is my second alcohol maker drawing in a row. This time the tutorial is from Lacy Brydon for Awesome Art School. I followed Lucy's drawing using a Graphgear 1000 Pentel pencil on Bristol paper. I made a couple of changes along the way. Lucy used Ohuhu Markers for the coloring and mine are Copics. As I did in Karen's, I picked light skin tones. I think it probably would have been better with darker skin tones.

Lucy's marker technique is different from Karen's. Lucy blends the colors while they are still wet similar to watercolor painting. It was fun to learn this new technique.

Either way, I love how these came out!

Mixed Media Houses

 

I found Jeannette Vivo Lagasi of Vivo Vintage Designs Tutorials on Pinterest. Her tutorials include so many techniques in styles I enjoy working on.

This piece is in a wonderful style. I love doing whimsical houses, patterning and using numerous supplies!

I drew this piece using a Graphgear 1000 Pentel Pencil and painted it using my Kuretake Gansai Tambi Paint Set on Canson XL 140 lb. watercolor paper. It's on the first page of my new watercolor spiral bound book.

I used Arteza Gouache for window frames and doors. I outlined and made the bricks show up using an "L" shaped line (shadow) using Molotow blackliner pens. Sharpie Creative Markers made patterning easy.

I really love how this piece came out. I'll be working on more of Jeannette's tutorials in the future.

Adorable Couple in Marker

 

I haven't done an alcohol marker drawing in awhile. This one is from a tutorial by Karen Campbell for Awesome Art School. I followed her drawing these characters on Bristol Paper, using my Graphgear 100 Pentel Pencil. When it came to coloring them in, Karen used Ohuhu Markers and I used my Copics. I did my best, but I didn't always pick the closest color. Their skin tones could have been a bit darker.

I love the portrait anyway!

Cover Girl 1917 in Graphite

 

Two things I enjoy about this drawing were drawing the reference piece by eye with my Graphgear 1000 Pentel pencil and doing it on the Toned Tan sketch paper of my Strathmore book.

The reference is from a 1917 The People's Home Journal, that Karen Campbell picked up at an antique shop. Her Awesome Art School tutorial included using charcoal, but it has never been a method I enjoy. Graphite is my favorite.

Mini Cottage Art

 

 

Hubby and I and I took a 4 day trip to the North Georgia mountain town of Ellijay. It's the “Apple Capital of Georgia” and a few made the trip back to the warm and sunny Florida. Although the town is charming and historic, the enjoyable aspect of the trip was being together with our family for a few days. The house decorated for the holidays is large with plenty of places to relax and even games to play. What I loved about our trip was getting to spend lots of time with our 7 year old granddaughter. We painted and sewed together and she's fun to play games with.

 Before we left for our trip, I drew a few mini cottages on watercolor paper. These were inspired by the whimsical drawings of Tracey Talgen Art.

While in Georgia, I worked on two of these cottages experimenting with Prima watercolors, fine line markers and watercolor markers.

 

My granddaughter showed some interest in doing one too. First we had to change the house into a cat house with a bit of signage. Then this little 7 year old colored with her watercolor markers and blended, spreading the color with a damp brush. When the paint was dry she added the fine liner and drew a cat (using her own clay sculpture for a reference).

 

It's always fun to have my granddaughter join me in arting!
