#1 Fairy on Toned Paper

 

This is the first of 50 Fab Fun Fairies that was a challenge in the Awesome Art School online classes. It is also my first piece in my new Strathmore Toned Tan paper sketchbook.

Following this tutorial by Karen Campbell, the owner of Awesome Art School, I used my Pentel Mechanical pencil to draw the fairy. I went over my pencil lines with a Prismacolor Premier colored pencil. I used the same pencil for shading and followed that with a Sharpie Fine Point marker. A Posca Pen was used to apply the highlights.

I loved working in my new book and drawing this fairy! I will be doing more of these!

Dapper Deco Style

 

Here's my second drawing from "Learn to Draw Art Deco Style, Vol 2" by Karen Campbell. Not only did I have the detailed instructions on how to use the Quadrant Method of drawing this character in the book, but also a detailed explanation to help me color him in using Copice Markers! To get the tweed fabric look, I started first with vertical and then horizontal strokes!

 

I used Karen's Quadrant Method to first draw on tracing paper guide lines and then drew detailed on scrap paper. I used my light pad to transfer all the detail onto my X-Press It Blending Card.

 

I drew over my pencil lines with a Micron Pen. I used Copic Markers for his suit, hat shoes and skin. I used a Gelly Roll Pen for highlights.

I love how this dapper fellow came out and look forward to more work in these books.

Day Dress Deco Style

 

I finally got around to my first drawing in "Learn to Draw Art Deco Style, Vol. 1" by Karen Campbell. Not only did I have the detailed instructions in the book, but there was an added video to help me color her in using Copice Markers!

1929 Bugatti Sketch

 

 I recently got the second volume of Karen Campbell's book "Learn to Draw Art Deco Style." I enjoyed the first volume, but haven't gotten around to work with it yet. The second volume just blew me away. I had to try my hand at drawing at least one of those sleek cars!

My husband Sandy wants to trade my car in and get one of those electric cars. Well, unless the 1929 Bugatti comes with a battery, this sketch is what he will get for Father's Day!

 

After following all the direction to draw this car, I used a Micron (01) Pen for the the pencil lines and colored the car with Copic Markers. The grey detail is actually done with a white Prismacolor Pencil.

I'm really happy with my finished piece and look forward to work on more in both the first and second volumes in these great books.

Queen Ann's Lace Mini Page

                                                       

 First I am so happy to be back on a DT with Fiona McTiernan at Crafting from the Heart. I will be showing you my mini art journal pages.

I enjoyed painting this floral piece from a tutorial by Sarah Cray for Let's Make Art. I loved it so much and decided to make one for my mini art journal.

I used Jane Davenport watercolors for the blue and the white is Dr. Ph Martin's Bleed Proof White. I used Finetic Pearlescent Colours for the gold, with less water. The background has touches of salt added when the page was wet.

For added interest, I used a small rubber stamped butterfly on the upper left!

I adhered a sticker from Tim Holtz Idea-ology at the bottom of my design.

Road Trip USA

 

This Camper Van is the third road trip picture in the Drawing the Decades for those wonderful 60s. They were all great fun and brought back so many memories.

Karen Campbell designs the wonderful tutorials, which I am following in her Awesome Art School.

I drew and colored these images using a Pentel Mechanical Pencil, Micron Pens and Copic Markers on X-Press It Blending Card.

I'm really happy with these drawings and look forward to more challenges to my skills.

Fun Fab Glamour Face

 This Glamour Face is from a drawing tutorial from Karen Campbell at Awesome Art School. Back in the day when I wanted to draw pretty faces, I used some stencils I collected. I don't need them anymore! I've learned to draw without stencils at Awesome Art School.

I began drawing the face in pencil on X-Press It Blending Card and went over the lines with a Sharpie Marker. I colored the face in with Copic Markers. I used three shades for the face and three shades for the hair, plus assorted markers and pens to finish off the details.

No more stencils for me, I can draw!
