Into the Woods

This piece is from a tutorial by Tony Burt for the Sketchbook Revival online workshop.

I tried this project twice. The first time I copied the artist's demonstration in the yellow and pink. But then I caught the fever of this sketching project and messed around with my husband's old photo. It just happened to be on my computer.

I used Jane Davenport watercolors, a variety of of pens and inks and some Dr. Ph. Martin's Bleed Proof White.

I'm both surprised and happy with the outcome of this piece!

Orange VW Bug

 

My VW Bug is a bit wonky, but it is so cute! My sister-law drove an orange VW Bug in 1969-70, when I was dating her brother! I had to make this mine! When we all lived on Long Island in New York State that car was the in car! This was a tutorial at Awesome Art School!

 

 I drew this picture on X-press It Blending Card and colored it in with Copic Markers.The details and outline was done in Micron Pens (01, 03 and 05).

Gelli Plate Color Collage

 This collage is from a tutorial by Julie Fei-Fan Balzer for a Sketchbook Revival online workshop.

Julie taught using a gelli plate with acrylic paint to create beautiful patterns, using stencils and other design elements, which can be combined into collages.

I used some of my gelli plate prints collection from 2020 to make this piece.

I focused on the color blue and adhered piece of my pages on to a page in my art journal.

I'm really happy with my finished page!

Stabilo Sister

 This portrait is from a tutorial by Karen Campbell of the Awesome Art School.

First I sketched a girl in a reference photo using a normal pencil and then I went over the lines using a Stabilo All pencil. I followed that up with a wet paint brush. I found it difficult to control the water and where to put the darks and lights. I used a white Sharpie watercolor marker for the highlights.

Although this portrait looks nothing like the reference photo, I learned a lot and plan to try another!

Queen Anne's Lace Watercolor

I loved working on this painting so much, that I did it twice, so fun!

This floral piece was painted from a tutorial by Sarah Cray for Let's Make Art.

I used Winsor Newton Cotman paint tubes for the blue and white is Dr. Ph. Martin's Bleed Proof White. I didn't have gold acrylic paint, but my Finetic Pearlescent Colours have gold, I used with less water. The background has salt that was added when the piece was wet. The paper I used was New York Central hot press 140 lb. watercolor block.

I loved playing with this painting, I might even do another!

Camper and Surf Board in Copic Markers

 

Oh my goodness, when I saw Karen Campbell, Artist's Camper Van and VW Bug, right away, I had plans to make these mine!This was a tutorial at Awesome Art School!

 

I live 7 miles from the sleepy town (well maybe not so sleepy these days) of Flagler Beach! Aside from the beautiful homes, there are trailer parks and places to set up campers. Palm trees grow and surfers still compete for the great rides on our coast of Florida.

Fox an Expressive Portrait

 

I have been looking forward to painting this colorful Fox. It's a mixed media piece from a tutorial by Tamara Laporte for an online workshop titled Sketchbook Revival.

I always enjoy working on this artist's tutorials. They are always colorful and use a number of different mediums. This piece uses both watercolor by Jane Davenport and some acrylic paint. I used several different pens and markers too.

I'm very happy with this little fella!
