Dragon Magic

This "Dragon Magic," is from a tutorial by Tamara Laporte. It's from a taster for "A Year of Magic and Fairy Tales." This is a mixed media project and I used a number of art supplies.

I drew the dragon onto Fabriano hot press watercolor paper. Most of the colors are from two watercolor sets, Jane Davenport and Winsor Newton. The dragon was enhanced using acrylic and India Inks. Outlines were done with a Molotow fineliner. Some bits and pieces were done with the following supplies: Derwent Inktense Pencil, Caren Dache Crayon and Sharpie Creative Markers.

While drawing this creature, I made some mistakes. I used the tracer Tamara offered to finish the drawing. I love, that my piece is different.

Tumbly Tower

This "Tumbly Tower," is the first house I drew and painted from Karen Campbell's newest book!

It's from her Whimsical Watercolor and How to Draw Series. "Happy Hooses" is her 5th book in the series. My copy has arrived! I couldn't wait to draw and paint the first house in the book!

I drew that house onto my Fabriano 140 lb. hot press paper and outlined the house with a Molotow Blackliner.  I painted the house with Jane Davenport and Winsor Newton watercolors. In addition, I used a Prismacolor pencil to darken some areas and a Uni-ball Signo Pen for white highlights. I read and followed Karen's tutorial in the book, but used different paint sets than what she used. I'm happy to say, mine came out just fine!

This book was worth the wait!

Wobbly Cobbly House in Watercolor

Karen Campbell's newest book is out! It's from her Whimsical Watercolor and How to Draw Series. "Happy Hooses" is her 5th book in the series. My copy hasn't arrived yet, but Karen offered a tutorial on painting one of the houses in the book, along with a coloring page of that house.

I transferred that house onto my Fabriano 140 lb. hot press paper and outlined the house with a Molotow Blackliner.  I painted the house with Winsor Newton watercolors. In addition, I used a Prismacolor pencil to darken some areas and a Uni-ball Signo Pen for white highlights. I watched Karen's video tutorial and the following I tried my hand at painting my own version.

After my copy of the book arrives I will be drawing and painting my own versions of each house, I can't wait!

Whimsical Landscape

This bright whimsical landscape is from a tutorial by Jeannett Vivo. I used Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolors and a Micron Pen to paint this piece.

I really enjoyed working on this scene. I also enjoy how Jeannett worked on this piece. When she isn't sure of herself and needs to fix it, she explained what wasn't right and how she went about making it work! I love how my clouds and water look in my scene, thanks to Jeannett!

Throughout this scene, I made a few changes to make it mine. The clouds and water are the best parts.

Two Witches in Watercolor

These "Two Witches," are from a tutorial on YouTube by Karen Campbell owner of Awesome Art School.

Karen demonstrated how to paint fabrics with two different kinds of watercolor paints. These were Prima and Kuretake. Prima is an American Company but manufactures their watercolors in Italy. Kuretake is owned and manufactures in Japan.

Karen designed two witches to use for the demonstration, as coloring pages. I printed them and transferred their images to Fabriano Hot Press 140 lb. watercolor paper. I followed Karen by picking out two shades of green for each witch, trying to duplicate Karen's work.

Prima watercolors are translucent but can be opaque. Kuretake watercolors are creamy and opaque.

I enjoyed the challenge of working on both of these witches in the different watercolor paint sets.

Disco Donna Watercolor

This is "Disco Donna," a watercolor mixed media paint from a tutorial by Karen Campbell for Awesome Art School.

I couldn't wait to try drawing this character, she was such fun. I wanted to draw her by eye freehand, but wasn't sure I'd get it right, so I drew her first on drawing paper and then transferred that drawing onto a 9x12" 140 lb. Canson XL cold press watercolor paper. I watched the drawing and painting lessons and went on to draw and paint this colorful picture on my own.

She was fun to draw with a Pentel Graphgear 1000 and paint with both Jane Davenport and Prisma watercolor sets. Disco Donna, bar and stool were painted using the wet in dry method and the fun background was painted in wet in wet.

I used a Molotow Blackliner for outlines and a Uni-ball Sigmo Pen for white highlights. I darkened some areas with a Prismacolor Pencil.

This piece took a couple of days to complete but well worth it. I loved playing with the color.

Leap of Joy in Mixed Media

This is a tutorial by Tamara Leporte for the "Art Soul Gathering." A painting with Tam is always fun. I couldn't wait to begin this playful confetti splash dolphin!

I began this lesson following Tam's drawing with a Pentel Graphgear 1000 on hot press watercolor paper (140lb.) I enjoyed creating this inspiring lesson using Prisma watercolors, Liquitex Acrylic Ink, Dr. Ph. Martin's Bombay Black India Ink. A paper towel working on the white ink made the realistic foam over the colorful background. I love that the dolphin's fins show through the white that look like bubbles!

I finished the piece off using a Molotow Blackliner and a Uni-ball Signo in white for highlights.

I really wasn't sure how this piece would work out, but looking at it the second day, gave me a good feeling about it!
