Adventure Awaits You, a Mini Journal Page

To begin this page, I sprayed Ranger Distress Qxide over a stamped script and let the design dry. I followed that with two cactus stickers and a pair of boots.

I hope to see you in the just for fun challenge at Crafting from the Heart, which accepts anything except cards!

Cottage Garden Mixed Media

This mixed media watercolor painting is from a tutorial by Paul Clark.

I transferred the outline Paul Clark provided onto my Arches cold press watercolor black using a sheet of graphite paper. I painted the scene using Winsor Newton Cotman tube colors, with the addition of a pastel chalk pencil and some chalk pastels for detail and highlights.

Although this piece was a challenge, I totally enjoyed it and love the finished piece. It was very hard to photograph and get the colors right!

Two Dachshunds

I enjoyed drawing this cute Dachshund from the drawing tutorial by Karen Campbell for Awesome Art School.

I loved painting him using my Winsor Newton Cotman tube watercolors on Canson 140 lb. cold press paper. The Micron Pen was used for details.

But this little guy was still looking at me for more attention and how could I resist! So I tried something new using Jane Davenport's highly pigmented watercolors. I painted in shapes and sometimes layers. It was great fun adding the Micron Pen and a Gell Pen, along with some Dr. Ph. Martin's Bleed Proof White for details.

Oranges Curls

This girl with orange curls was painted from a demo on youtube by Karen Campbell. I used Jane Davenport watercolors on Canson 140 lb. cold press watercolor paper. I added detail with Faber-Castell Pitt Brush Pens and a bit of Gelly Roll pen for highlights. I enjoyed playing around with the orange color, adding red as I went down.

I'm very happy with this piece, it was such fun!

Flower Girl

I found this lovely girl in Fun Fab Florals, a collection of tutorials in Karen Campbell's Awesome Art School. The lesson was for alcohol markers. I really wanted to work in my tan toned paper sketchbook. So I followed the lesson for drawing the girl onto the tan page and then did my own thing.

I used some China Markers, Faber-Castell Polychromos Pencils and a black Micron Pen to finish this piece.

I love how it came together on my tan toned page!

Sweater Girl

I found this sweater girl on Pinterest. I love her picture and the hat! I used Faber-Castell Brush Pens, Microns and a Prismacolor Blender in my Strathmore Toned Tan Sketch book. I feel it looks fine, but it would have been better on different paper. I read the pens work on toned paper. I like to experiment and the brush pens are new. I got the idea for using the blender pen online. I will try another girl on Bristol paper using these new Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pens and the Prismacolor Colorless Blender.

I learned to draw these face from Karen Campbell's Awesome Art School. I am a retired art teacher and did draw before retiring to Florida. When I decided to get back into painting and drawing, the drawing didn't happen but the painting did. Now that I took the step into Karen's Awesome Art School online, I finally got my drawing skill back, and then some!

I put this photo of the drawing up in the art school group and got some lovely comments right away! One was from Karen Campbell;
"Your line work on this piece really makes it look amazing! love the contrast between both sides of her hair"
I'm really proud and happy with my skills and want to keep growing and enjoying that school!

Rainbow Fairy

I've been putting off the Rainbow Fairy long enough and decided I needed to do something bright and  I cheerful. I chose to work on the Rainbow Fairy from Karen Campbell's tutorial for Awesome Art School.

I used my Copic Markers on X-press It Blending Card. These markers are old, so I carefully only used the normal skin tones for the fairy, as I have refills for them. I think she looks really fine! I gave her some extra glitz on the ear with a gold Posca Pen. I used a Sharpie Paint Pen and a Gelly Roll Pen for her highlights.

I enjoyed working on this colorful beauty and love the finished piece!

Queen of Arts - Journal Pages

After watching several Youtube tutorials by Karen Campbell, I decided that my art journal needed a new mixed media piece.

I started with the background of ripped book pages and used matter medium adhesive. I added color with Distress Ink and then gave it a light coat of white gesso.

Here's where the fun begins, designing the queen's face with numerous supplies:

Pencil, acrylic paint, Stabilo pencil, Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pen, Carand ache Crayons, Pearlescent Watercolors, Posca Pen, and a Gelly Roll Pen for highlights

I'm really happy with this two page spread!

Blue and Green Fae

My Blue and Green Fae is from a demo by Karen Campbell, while giving a watercolor set review.

I painted this mixed media piece with Jane Davenport watercolors on Fabriano hot press 140 lb. watercolor paper. The paper is something new and I enjoyed working on it with a couple of my new paint brushes (Silver Silk 88 and Silver Black Velvet). I used an assortment of pens to bring out details: Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pen, Micron Pen and a Gelly Roll Pen.

Although not my style, I totally enjoyed playing with the watercolor so loosely.
