Robins in Gouache

While trying to learn to paint with gouache, I found Deanna Maree's Studio tutorial on painting a Xmas Wreath. Aside from learning the different leaves and flowers, it included three different Robins. The American Robin is the first one I chose for practice. I didn't want the bird to go to waste, so I put him on a branch with some pine needles. Now I have a lovely painting.

I painted these birds and floral pieces using Winsor Newton Gouache on Canson 140 lb. watercolor paper. Here are some of my practices, these will make a lovely wreath one day:

The American Robin looks so good, I decided to work on the other two. Here's the Rose Robin (Australian).

Here's my European Robin:

My husband, who is really into birding, recognized this bird immediately!

Holly Jolly Gouache is a free tutorial at Deanna Maree Creative Studio. I'm so glad I found her.
