Pumpkin Line and Wash

This line and wash painting of Pumpkins is from a tutorial by Paul Clark. I enjoy the wet into wet technique, seeing the colors blend.

I used my light pad to transfer the outline onto Canson 140 lb. cold press watercolor paper. I used Bombay black India ink with a dip pen for the line. I painted with Winsor Newton Cotman watercolor tube colors.

I learn so much from Paul Clark's tutorials.

Gnome and Pumpkins Mixed Media

I found this light and cheerful mixed media tutorial at Diane Antone's Studio. I really enjoy this artist's style.

I used Jane Davenport watercolors and assorted pens including Posca and Micron on Canson 140 lb. cold press watercolor paper.

I love how this painting came out!

Mixologist Girl Art Journal Page

This was fun to work on in my art journal. I colored the girl with Prismacolor Pencils and used book pages for the background. Karen Campbell a Mixed Media Artist sent me the tutorial. I guess she wanted to see what I would come up with.

I also worked with acrylic paints, gesso and Micron and Posca Pens. I hope to work on more tutorials by this artist.

Moody Castle in Gouache

This Moody Castle is from a tutorial by Sarah Cray for Let's Make Art. It was painted on Canson 140 lb. watercolor paper, using one color black (Holbein Arts' Gouache).

It was fun and very different...spooky too!

Love the effect of the water bleeding and the many shadows!

A Patch of Blue

This Art Journal two page spread came about with my desire to learn to do abstract art. Combining the colorful piece along with the nature study collage worked out well for the two pages.

I first ripped up several sheets of book pages and adhered them with matt medium to my journal page. I traced a stencil using a Micron pen to put butterflies on the page and improved the design with a Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pen. Then I colored around the butterflies with Caran D' Ache crayons. I used a wet brush to paint around the design, activating the colors. When it was dry I drew stems and leaves on the painting.

I made the collage on top of a book page from bits and pieces from my stash. The children included are from a package by Tim Holtz. I adhered the collage on the page across from my butterfly painting.

Otterly Love

I'm fortunate to get to do another of the Taster art tutorials from Life Book 2023. Hurricane Ian has passed leaving me less time to do all the lessons. This is Tamara Laporte's tutorial Otterly Love.

I used my Jane Davenport watercolors for the lessons and several waterproof pens, including Posca and Micron.

I really loved working on this Otter and look forward to more art lessons.

A Butterfly Princess and Pretty Feathers

I was really fortunate to get to do a few of the Taster art tutorials from Life Book 2023. Hurricane Ian had just begun it's journey across the state of Florida. I got to work on Tamara Laporte's lessons of Feathers and the beautiful Butterfly Alchemy Princess.

I used my Jane Davenport watercolors for the lessons as well as several waterproof pens, including Posca and Micron. For the face of the princess, I blended Carand'ache crayons along with the watercolors.

I really enjoyed working on these pieces and look forward to more art lessons.

Abstract Floral Mixed Media

This multi media floral was inspired by Diane Antone's Painted Fall Flowers with Gold Accents. There wasn't a sketch for this painting, just a placement of colors on the Canson 140 lb. cold press watercolor paper. I used Master's Touch metallic watercolor cakes and Finetec Pearlescent colors. I added a bit Winsor Newton Cotman green. For detail I used Posca and Macron Pens.

This was fun to work on. It was hard to know when to stop.
