So Sad Beauty in Markers

I'm a student at Karen Campbell's Awesome Art School and I belong to all three of the clubs that make up the school.

The club I belonged to first is the Fun Fab Drawing Club. My intention was to up my drawing skill, but I learned much more. Through the club I learned to use new supplies and techniques. Which is also true of the other two clubs.

I drew this "Beauty," using a Graphgear 1000 Pentel Pencil on a sheet of 9"x12" Strathmore Bristol Paper. The coloring medium was for alcohol markers. I have lots of Copic Markers, one draw back is, they are old and I haven't replaced so many of the inks or parts. The second draw back is,  Karen uses Ohuhu Markers. Yes, I can substitute, but then I would need to invest in parts and ink for the Copic Markers. My decision was to buy the Skin Tone Set of 36 Ohuhu Markers. I ordered the set early in March, but it was nearly the end of the month before they arrived. It was hard to wait...Once I saw "Beauty" I wanted to start working on her. I worked on her the day after the markers arrived and boy am I happy with that decision.

Additional supplies used for "Beauty" include: Prismacolor Pencils, Molotow Blackliners and white Gelly Roll Pen.

There will be more tutorials to use these new Ohuhu Markers. I'm glad I could also use what I have.

Poor Sad Jake

This Poor Sad Jake from a tutorial by Karen Campbell for Awesome Art School.

I followed Karen's instruction for drawing this fellow with my Graphgear 1000 Mechanical Pencil, in my cold press Canson Watercolor Book. I went over my graphite lines with a Stabilo All pencil and finally used a water brush over the Stabilo drawing.

This was so fun to work on and I'm so happy with how it looks!

Dagda Mixed Media

I had fun working on this mixed media tutorial by Lucy Brydon for Awesome Art School. According to Lucy, a Dagda is an "Irish God of life and death and the patron of worriers and druids."

I drew this fellow with a Graphgear 1000 pencil in my Canson watercolor book. I colored him using Prismacolor Pencils and Artist's Loft Dual Tip Permanent Markers. The background and steam coming from the caldron were painted with Jane Davenport watercolors. I used white Holbein Artists' Gouache for the highlights on this fellow.

I wasn't  sure if my skills were up to this level, but I did my best and I'm very happy with the results!

Mountainside Village

This mixed media painting was created from a tutorial by Jeannette of Vivo Vintage Designs. The piece reminds me of our family's trip to the mountains in Georgia. But, I didn't see the castle in the sky!

I drew the piece using a Graphgear 1000 Pentel Pencil and I painted it with Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolors. It's in my Canson XL 140 lb. watercolor book. I used a Micron Pen and Sharpie Creative Markers for details. I used grey gouache for the castle!

I love working in this book and plan to add more of Jeannett's tutorials to it!

Moon Goddess in Watercolor

I drew this Moon Goddess from a tutorial by Karen Campbell for Awesome Art School. I used a Graphgear 1000 Pencil in my Canson watercolor book. She is painted in Prima  watercolor. Due to a mishap with her lovely hair, it covers her eye!

This Moon Goddess, is walking past the lunar eclipse that happened this past week.

I'm loven her! She has perfect timing!

Celtic God on Toned Paper

I watched a great a tutorial featuring this Celtic God on Toned Tan paper. The tutorial is by Karen Campbell for Awesome Art School.

I drew him using a Blackwing Matte pencil in my Strathmore Toned Tan sketch book. I added shading with a paper stump. I drew white highlights and other white areas using a General's Charcoal White, a Aquarellable Pencil and a White Sharpie Creative Marker. After drawing this image I used two different size plates to draw circles around the image.

This image was fun to work on and keep adding lines and shading!

I love the finished piece!

Ice Cream Cart in Gouache

I recently found Nianiani on Pinterest and I enjoy watching her video tutorials. Her Ice Cream Cart is so cute. I love that the tutorial is in gouache, so I had to try it.

I followed her drawing with my  Graphgear 1000 pencil in my Arteza Gouache Pad. I made a few changes to make Nianiani's design mine and I love the design in its simplicity. I used Arteza Gouache and some white Holbein Artist's Gouache to paint the cart. I brought out the detail in the design with a Micron Pen.

I enjoyed painting and love the subject matter.
