Two Dragons in Gouache

 

 

 

 I recently bought an Arteza Gouache Paint Kit. It was a great price including 12 tubes of gouache in a wooden case. That's what attracted me to the kit, the case will keep my collection of gouache separate from the watercolors and give me colors I didn't have yet.

I tried out a couple of new and old colors on the Arteza Gouache Pad included in the set.

Lucy Brydon has a number of gouache tutorials in Awesome Art School. I had already done a couple in the gouache I had. I think the baby dragons were the perfect small trial on the first page of that pad. I drew each dragon freehand. The first dragon in the egg was done i layers of gouache, The sleeping dragon was done in blended color with white. For both dragons I used the new brushes included in the set. I plan to continue working in the pad improving my skills.

Sultry Fairy Princess

 

This watercolor painting is from a tutorial by Lucy Brydon for Awesome Art School. It's on Canson 140 lb. cold press watercolor paper. I used two Prima watercolor sets: Complexions and Woodlands. I also used two Kuretake Gansai Tambi metalic sets: Opal Colors and Gem Colors. These two new sets really made a difference in the crown and necklace worn by this princess.

I had some fun using Molotow Blackliners to add decorative lines and a white gel pen for highlights.

This piece was a fun and challenging piece to work on.

Mushroom Fairy

As soon as I saw Lucy Brydon's  Mushroom Fairy tutorial Awesome Art School, I took out my Copic Markers!

I enjoy picking the colors to blend on the Bristol paper. Making her mine was so fun. Although I love the black and grey background, I decided to leave it out and concentrate on the fairy and mushrooms.  I used Molotow Blackliners and a white gell pen for lines, highlights and details.

I'm so happy with how this piece came out, I wouldn't add a thing!

Sunshine Joyboy in Mixed Media

 

 

 

This Joyboy is from a tutorial in the Taster Sessions for a Light and Bright year long course, by Tamara Laporte.

I used Fabriano hot press watercolor paper for this piece. Since this is mixed media I used a number of paints, from Prima watercolors, acrylic paints, acrylic and watercolor inks, to Kuretake metalic gold for the sun. I used a Molotow Blackliner for the line details.

I especially had fun painting the hair and the rays of the sun!

A Vibrant Moth

 This Moth is a warm up exercise in the Taster Sessions for a year long art course called Light and Bright. This tutorial is by Tamara Laporte.

I drew this moth from Tamara's drawing lesson, on Fabriano 140 lb. hot press watercolor paper. I combined two watercolor paint sets Prima Currents and Kuretake Gem Colors to fill in the sections of the design. I used a Molotow Blackliner for details.

The moth was fun to work on and use my new Prima Currents watercolors. I love the blues and greens in this set and the gold metallic in the Kuretake set is the perfect contrasting accent that I needed.

Wee Fairy in Alcohol Markers

 I enjoy getting to learn to use the Copic Markers, that I kept in a draw for awhile! Awesome Art School has taught me the techniques I need to make my work stand out! This Wee Fairy sure does!

The colors on this photo are not as nice as the original art, the camera doesn't do it justice! I take a lot of care trying to get the colors right, by swatching them on a separate and checking them in my Copic Marker book.

 I drew this fairy on Bristol Paper following Karen Campbell's lesson. I learned to layer colors with the markers. The Molotow Blackliners bring out the details and a gell pen was used for highlights.

She is a beauty and although I followed Karen Campbell and used a reference, I drew her my way!

1940s Glam Girl

 When I saw this fabulous girl in a tutorial in Awesome Art School, I wanted to draw her in my Strathmore Toned Tan Sketchbook. There is a tutorial for this girl, but unfortunately it is not included in the clubs.

                                   

                                                   

  Tara Ciliento and Karen Campbell (owner of Awesome Art School) encouraged me to draw her on my own. I felt drawing those wonderful curls might not be within my drawing talents. But as you can see I was successful and found those curls easy!

This 1940s Glam Girl was drawn using a Graphgear 1000 Pentel pencil, with a white Gelly Roll pen for the highlight in her eyes.
