Fox an Expressive Portrait

I have been looking forward to painting this colorful Fox. It's a mixed media piece from a tutorial by Tamara Laporte for an online workshop titled Sketchbook Revival.

I always enjoy working on this artist's tutorials. They are always colorful and use a number of different mediums. This piece uses both watercolor by Jane Davenport and some acrylic paint. I used several different pens and markers too.

I'm very happy with this little fella!

Butterflies and Watercolor Flowers

I know that I've said, I enjoy tutorials by Diane Antone. I was gifted a coupon for 50% off of the color books on her site. I have enjoyed working on her tutorials for free, but there are 20 hand-drawn design in each book, which has a dedicated playlist on Utube. I downloaded the Summer Hedgerow Coloring Book," and chose the design from the list in the book. I love having these illustrations to choose from on my computer. It was worth $3 to have them any time.

I transferred my chosen illustration onto Strathmore Mixed Media paper (8x10" 140 lb.) using my light pad. I used some Daler Rowney Aquafine Watercolor Ink, a glass dip pen and a water brush. I don't have the supplies mentioned in the tutorial, but the watered down ink worked well with my glass pen and water brush. I did play with what I have on a small 5x7 watercolor paper, which helped me to decide what I would do on the larger size mixed media paper.

I'm very pleased with my work and look forward to doing others in the book.

Floral Bouquet Watercolor and Line

This Floral Bouquet is from a tutorial by Diane Antone. I've been wanting to paint flowers, but I do find doing hard! I enjoy Diane Anton's the loose and basic style of her work.

I painted with Jane Davenport watercolors on Canson 140 lb. watercolor paper. I enhanced the painting with a Micron pen.

I look forward to seeing the daily sketches provided by Diane Antone freely on her site.

Be Myself Art Journal Page

I found this quote from Vincent Van Gogh on Pinterest and felt it works for me.

I adhered Tim Holtz Ideo-Ology Collage Tissue paper to a single page in my art journal using Liquitex Matte Medium. I watered down some Artist's Loft white gesso and painted it in spots letting the printed tissue show thru.

I wanted to add a bit of color to the florals, so I rubbed some ink from old ink pads on them. I sprayed two colors of Distress Oxide Spray between the flowers for a background.

I typed and cut out the quote. I colored (using Copic Markers), cut out and glued a Julie Nutting paper doll, that a friend had gifted me several years ago.

Lastly I adhered the paper bits to the art journal page.

Whimsical Turtle Mixed Media

This mixed media painting was so fun to work on. I love Diane Antone's tutorials.

I used my light pad to transfer the sketch to Canson 140 lb. cold press. I painted with Jane Davenport watercolors. For details I used a Micron 01 and a Uni-ball Signo Pen to fill in the fun designs.

I look forward to the next challenge of a Diane Antone tutorial.

Make Your Mark

This tutorial by Sarah Cray for Let's Make Art was a perfect anti stress reliever! She went step by step coming away with a lovely abstract composition.

I painted on a 5x7" piece of Canson 140 lb. cold press watercolor paper. I used a Micron pen and a Faber-Castell Pitt Artist pen. I used two types of watercolors: Winsor Newton Cotman tubes and the gold is from Master's Touch Metallic watercolors. I used Dr. Ph. Martin's Bleed Proof White for some of the small marks.

This was a very enjoyable exercise.

Mermaid Pencil Drawing

For 4 days in February I participated in an art party, which included several lessons for members of Awesome Art School, owned by artist Karen Campbell. I have displayed several of my pieces from those days and I have one left to show you.

This wonderful mermaid is from a tutorial by Lucy Brydon. It was meant to be a line and wash, but I like the look of the pencil drawing on the Canson Watercolor paper. I decided to leave it as is. I hope you agree with me!
