Raccoon Mixed Media

 This Raccoon is from a lovely tutorial by Tamara Laporte on Utube. As soon as I saw this wonderful fella, I knew I had to try and make it my own. Tamara inspired me with her fast and loose style. The colors she used are so magical!

I painted this guy on Canson 140 lb. cold press watercolor paper, with Jane Davenport Watercolor and used Holbein Art's Guache for the whites. The details were done in Posca Pens.

What a joy this fella was to paint and I look forward to more of these multicolored animals from Tamara Laporte!

Goldilocks and the Three Bears Mixed Media

 

Starry, starry night

Paint your palette blue and gray,

Look out on a summer's day,

(Van Gogh's vantage point looking out from an asylum at Saint-Remy.)

This was a top hit back in the day, for Don McLean! In this version of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, the bears are Goldilocks' benevolent protectors or guardian angel and not the angry bears in today's fairy tales.

This is another fairy tale in Tamara Laporte's book "Ever After." I love working in this mix media artistic style.

I used a variety of mediums to paint this picture. I painted on Canson 140 lb. cold press watercolor paper. I used Winsor Newton Cotman watercolor tubes and Caran d'ache water soluble crayons as well as several permanent waterproof pens and watercolor markers.

Dozing Fox Postcard

 

This Dozing Fox is from a tutorial by Sarah Cray for Let's Make Art. It makes a nice addition to my watercolor post card collection. I transferred the available outline to my watercolor postcard using a light pad.

I used Winsor Newton Cotman watercolor tubes to paint this cute little fox.

Neurographic Art

 Just looking for some new art adventures and I found, Neurographic Art a meditative art form. It's relaxing to create and a beautiful process. The process is based on a psychological method created by Russian psychologist Pavel Riskarev in 2014. It's a way to transform the fear and chaos of the world into something more calming and peaceful.

I used a Sharpie Marker and drew loopy lines on watercolor paper. The lines begin and end on the edge of the paper. Keep adding lines to fill the page. I chose a circle shape to layer over the design. It's best to choose one simple geometric shape and use the shape several times. I added more lines to fill the spaces. I curved out the intersecting lines. I integrated the lines and shapes by rounding out any place where two lines met or intersected, drawing connecting curves or circles. The lines can have various thickness. I painted in the sections using several colors (Winsor Newton Cotman watercolors). More than three colors works best.

I really enjoyed this and might want to make a few more.

Blue Tit on Berry Branch

 I like the chance to paint birds from the wonderful tutorials provided by generous artists online! This is a Blue Tit Bird on Berry Branch from a tutorial by The Art Sherpa, Cinnamon Cooney. This painting is an anniversary gift for my husband Sandy, who enjoys looking at birds and learning about them. This bird can be found in Europe.

I painted this beauty with Winsor Newton Cotmen watercolor tubes on a Arches 140 lb. cold press watercolor block.

La Gomera, Canary Islands Watercolor

 Artist Paul Clark gave classes for two weeks in January, on the Canary Islands. When he returned home he gave this wonderful tutorial to his classes online.

I painted this lovely subject on Arches 140 lb. watercolor block, using Winsor Newton Cotman watercolor tubes. The piece was enhanced with Generals Pastel Chalk Pencils and Soft Pastels.

Boy those students of Paul Clark were so luck to get to go on such a great trip. I'm glad he still continues to teach, sharing his talent online.

Goose Girl in Mixed Media

 This is the third in a series of fairy tale paintings in mixed media using Tamara Laporte's book "Ever After." I enjoy painting Tamara Laporte's lessons very much. There are other lessons in the book by other artists, but I haven't tried them yet.
