Bluejay Watercolor

Now that my husband Sandy has given me those Christmas requests for bird paintings, I'm addicted! Here's my newest watercolor bird, a Bluejay! I found the outline on Pinterest. I transferred this outline to my watercolor paper using a light box.

I painted this bird using Winsor and Newton Cotman tube colors on Canson 140 lb. paper. For a few small details, I filled in with a black Micron 01 pen.

Sewing Bird Watercolor Painting

The "Sewing Bird," was designed by artist Sarah Cray in conjunction with the Missouri Star Quilt Company and Let's Make Art. Although the Christmas Box sold out quickly, the traceable and tutorial are up for anyone to use. I did!

I painted this design using Winsor Newton Cotman watercolor tubes on Canson 140 lb. paper.

Flowers and Butterflies Mixed Media

I took a break from my bird painting addiction. I painted flowers from Dana Fox's book, "Watercolor With Me in the Forest." I played with the colors a lot and didn't know what to do with the end result. I decided it needed butterflies!

I wanted small butterflies, so they wouldn't overpower the flowers. I took some ideas from a coloring book. "Vive Le Color! Butterflies" by Hachette Liure is an adult coloring book with all types and sizes of butterflies. I chose two and designed and colored them using Tombow Watercolor Markers. I added details with a Gelly Roll 08 pen and a Micron 01 pen.

So I had fun going from a watercolor painting to a mixed media piece.

I used Winsor Newton Cotman tube watercolors on Canson 140 lb. watercolor paper.

Cedar Waxwing Watercolor Painting

Here is the 5th and last bird painting on my husband's Christmas request list! The image of this Cedar Waxwing was on Pinterest, as a coloring page.

I traced the page onto watercolor paper using my light box making change where I needed.

I used Winsor and Newton Cotman watercolor tubes on 140 lb. Canson watercolor paper.
